Seven Sorrows of Mary
The Dolors or 7 Sorrows of Our Lady
7 Signal Graces Accompany this most wonderful devotion
- I will grant peace to their families.
- They will be enlightened about the divine mysteries.
- I will console them in their pains and I will accompany them in their work.
- I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my divine Son or the sanctification of their souls.
- I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives.
- I will visibly help them at the moment of their death; they will see the face of their Mother.
- I have obtained (this grace) from my divine Son, that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and dolors, will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness since all their sins will be forgiven and my Son and I will be their eternal consolation and joy.
All that is required is that you ponder each Sorrow and pray 1 Hail Mary for each one, but it is better is you pray this one to help you meditate.
V: O God, come to my assistance;
R: O Lord, make hast to help me
V: Glory be to the Father.....
R: As it was in the beginning....
1.The Prophecy of Simeon.
Luke 2: 34, 35: Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, You see this child: he is destined for the fall and for the rising of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is rejected- and a sword will pierce your own soul too; so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare.
I grieve for you, O Mary, most sorrowful, in the affliction of your tender heart at the prophecy of the holy and aged Simeon. Dear Mother, by your heart so afflicted, obtain for me the virtue of humility and the gift of the holy fear of God.
Hail Mary........
2. The Flight into Egypt.
St. Matthew 2:13-15: After they had left, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “get up, take the child and his mother with you, and escape into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, because Herod intends to search for the child and do away with him”. So Joseph got up and, taking the child and his mother with him, left that night for Egypt, where they stayed until Herod was dead.
I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, in the anguish of your most affectionate heart during the flight into Egypt and your sojourn there. Dear Mother, by your heart so troubled, obtain for me the virtue of generosity, especially toward the poor, and the gift of piety.
Hail Mary........
3.The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple
St. Luke 2: 43-45: When he was twelve years old, they went up for the feast as usual. When they were on their way home after the feast, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his parents knowing it. They assumed he was with the caravan, and it was only after a days journey that they went to look for him among their relations and acquaintances. When they failed to find him they went back to Jerusalem looking for him everywhere. Three days later, they found him in the Temple, sitting among the doctors, listening to them, and asking them questions; and all those who heard him were astounded at his intelligence and his replies. They were overcome when they saw him, and his mother said to him, “My child, why have you done this to us?” See how worried your father and I have been, looking for you.’ ‘Why were you looking for me?’ he replied ‘Did you not know that I must be busy with my Father’s affairs?’ But they did not understand what he meant.
I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, in those anxieties which tried your troubled heart at the lost of your dear Jesus. Dear Mother, by your heart so full of anguish, obtain for me the virtue of chastity and the gift of knowledge.
Hail Mary........
4. The meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way of the Cross

Hail Mary........
5. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus.
I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, in the martyrdom which your Immaculate heart endured while watching the death-agony of Jesus thy beloved son. Dearest Mother, by the sword of sorrow that pierced thy precious heart, obtain for me the virtue of self control and the gift of counsel.
Hail Mary........
6. The taking down of the Body of Jesus from the Cross.
I grieve for you, O Mary most sorrowful, on account of the torment of your Immaculate and tender heart, by the thrust of the lance that opened the side of Jesus and pierced His Most Adorable heart. O dearest Mother through your martyred heart, obtain for me the virtue of brotherly love and the gift of understanding.
Hail Mary........
7.The Burial of Jesus
I grieve for you, O sorrowful Mother Mary, on account of that agony of your soul, which racked thy most immaculate loving heart at the burial of Jesus. Dear Mother, by your heart tortured, immaculate heart, obtain for me the virtue of zeal for Jesus and the gift of wisdom.

Let Us PrayO Lord Jesus Christ, we beseech thee that the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, whose soul was pierced by the Sword of Sorrow in the hour of Thy Passion, may be our advocate at the throne of Thy Mercy, now, and at the hour of our death, Through Thee, Jesus Christ, Redeemer of the World, Who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.
Prayer in Honor of the Dolors of the Blessed Virgin
O Most Holy and afflicted Virgin, Queen of Martyrs! Who stood beneath the cross, witnessing the agony of your dying Son, look down with a mother’s tenderness and pity on us as we kneel before you to venerate your Dolors, and place our requests, with filial confidence, in the sanctuary of your wounded heart. Present them on our behalf to Jesus, through the merits of His most sacred Passion and Death, together with your sufferings at the foot of the cross, and through the united efficacy of both, obtain the favor which we humbly ask. To whom shall we go in our wants and miseries if not to you. O Mother of Mercy, who having so deeply drunk of the chalice of your Son, graciously alleviate the sufferings of those who still sigh in this land of exile. Amen.
