1. Ask to see videos of entire weddings, you’ll fast forward through it, but it’s preferable to seeing a video montage of “hits.”
2. Focus on the quality of the images, the lighting, the special effects, and the way the story of the day is told. Is the sound clear? Are there a variety of images that make it interesting to watch? Don’t get dazzled by beautiful flowers or an opulent site — that’s not a function of the videography.
3. Do they shoot in Betacam or digital camera (both broadcast quality), SVHS-the next best, or VHS (consumer quality)?
4. What kind of equipment do they use? What sort of microphones? Lighting?
5. How many cameras do they use?
6. How many people are in the crew?
7. What is the editing process? What equipment is used? Is digital editing included?
8. What special effects are available?
9. Can you be involved in the editing?
10. How do they charge?
11. When will you receive the final product? Who owns the master tape?
12. How much do copies of the tape cost?
13. How much of a deposit is required to hold the date? Is the deposit refundable? How much notice is required?
