Making Your Marriage Last
When the "honeymoon" is over and the day-to-day of marriage begins, always remember to be thankful for:
because it means that you are alive.
2. The piles of laundry and ironing because it means
your loved ones are nearby.
3. Your huge heating or air conditioning bill because it means that you
are warm.
4. Lawns that need mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing because it
means you have a home.
5. The shadow who watches you work because it means you are out in the sunshine.
6. The mess to clean up after a party because it means you have been surrounded by friends.
7. The clothes that fit a little too snug because it means you have enough to eat.
8. The spot you find at the far end of the parking lot because it means you are capable of walking.
9. All the complaining you hear about your government because it means you have free speech.
10. The taxes you pay because it means you are employed.
11. The lady behind you in church who sings off-key because it means you can hear.
12. Weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means that you have been productive.
Never Take Each-other For Granted
The only way you won’t feel overwhelmed by it all is to appreciate each-other.
There are a million books on how to make it work, and every one of them has a different opinion of what they think it takes to make a marriage work, so why does the divorce rate continue to rise... what does it really take to go the distance?
Here is my two cents worth:
If this is bad new to you because you are like night and day... take heart, you can develop similar likes and grow together if you are committed to it. The hardest thing in a marriage to overcome is differing religious and political beliefs, so my suggestion is at least try to come together in these areas.

Having a good sense of humor is really a great blessing in a marriage. You are going to need it badly, so if you are lacking in that department don’t feel bad, I was too, just ask God to give you a better sense of humor, oh what the hey... while your at it asking the Big Guy for gifts might as well ask Him for a “fantastic” sense of humor, he will give it to you, trust me, my sense of humor sucked until I started asking for a better one.
Humility
Without this essential ingredient your marriage will soon fall apart because you will always be right and you will find it impossible to apologize even when you know you were the problem. The good news is your marriage can work if only one of you is humble, it may make it a bit harder on you but it will work. But it would be so much more fun if both of you has a degree of humility. How to get humility, the short answer to this is: Prayer. If you are not a praying person, you better start, you are going to need to pray together to stay together.
Forgiveness
Forgiveness is the number one thing you will be practicing on a daily basis, if you are already good at it you will be a happy soul all the days of your married life.
